Larian Studios introduced us to a major villain in the game, Lord Enver Gortash, voiced by none other than Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs.

A new trailer was shown at the event, showing off Isaacs' character alongside the actor chewing up the scenery inside the recording booth. It's worth a watch and you can see it below:

The third major entry in the series has been a long time coming and it's nearly time for it to finally leave early access and release proper. With a PS5 launch confirmed alongside the PC, too, it's a great time to be a fan of Baldur's Gate.

Read on to find out everything there is to know about the Baldur's Gate 3 release date, find out where to pre-order, to watch a trailer, and discover more about the RPG's gameplay and story.

When is the Baldur's Gate 3 release date?

The Baldur's Gate 3 release date is Thursday 31 August 2023, it has been confirmed by the developers.

Both the PS5 and PC versions of the game are set to release on 31st August. No one's going to miss out on the fun this summer if all goes to plan and we're not hit with a last-minute delay.

Fans of the game can finally move on from the early access version of the game, which only contains the first act (that's one-fifth of the whole map). Fans who have played that part to death over the last couple of years can check out the rest of the game soon.

Can I pre-order Baldur's Gate 3?

Yes, you can now pre-order Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5 and PC. You can pre-order the physical Collector's Edition on PC and on PS5 on the official Larian Studios website. Currently, pre-orders for the Standard Edition of the game appear to be digital-only on PS5. You can pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition on the PlayStation Store also.

There are three versions of the game: Standard Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, and the Physical Collector's Edition. Check out what each version of the game comes with in the image below:

The Digital Deluxe and Collector's Edition also come with the Divinity: Original Sin 2 item pack:

  • Mask of the Shapeshifter: Allows you to change race and appearance on the fly, inspired by Fane
  • Cape of the Red Prince: Cloak inspired by the Red Prince
  • Lute of the Merryweather Bard: Playable instrument inspired by Lohse
  • Needle of the Outlaw Rogue: Dagger inspired by Sebille
  • Bicorne of the Sea Beast: Headgear inspired by Beast
  • Paintings from Rivellon: Discover a new collection of paintings across the Forgotten Realms

On top of that, the Collector's Edition comes with the following physical items:

  • A digital copy of Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition
  • Custom sticker sheet
  • 25cm Mind Flayer vs. Drow battle diorama
  • 160-page hardcover art book
  • Cloth map of Faerûn
  • Set of D&D-inspired origin character sheets
  • Metal tadpole keyring
  • Magic: The Gathering booster pack
  • Custom-engraved metal d20, plus an in-game version!
  • Certificate of authenticity

What's more, pre-orders of the Digital Deluxe Edition and Physical Collector's Edition come with 72-hours early-access, meaning you will be able to play the game from 28th August.

Baldur's Gate is currently available on early access from Steam. You can buy it here!

We should add that once you've bought it on early access, you won't have to buy it again when the full game launches on 31st August. Better yet, buy it now and you'll be upgraded to the Digital Deluxe Edition at launch for free.

Which consoles and platforms can play Baldur's Gate 3?

Baldur's Gate 3 is available on PC, MacOS and PS5. Sadly, there is yet to be a mention of an Xbox Series X/S version.

We likely won't get the game on PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch either, as it looks as though they simply won't be able to handle its impressively detailed worlds.

Baldur's Gate 3 gameplay and story details

Baldur's Gate 3 is set over 120 years after the events of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. However, those who played Descent into Avernus will be pleased to know that it's set mere months after that. The player is being held captive by mind flayers - but not for long.

If you've played the early access, you know all this, and what happens next will all become clear this August when we meet JK Simmons's General Ketheric Thorm.

The game can be played alone or in co-op. It has been revealed that you can play four-player online co-op on both the PS5 and PC versions of the game. On PS5, you can play local split screen co-op with two players.
