JOINING

Cassandra "Cassie" Plummer (Claire Sweeney)

When is Cassie Plummer arriving? Summer 2023.

Brookside alum Claire Sweeny is joining the cast of Coronation Street as Tyrone Dobbs' long-lost mother Cassie Plummer.

This is bound to cause chaos for Cassie's mother Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) who claimed that Cassie was dead.

On joining the cast of Corrie, Sweeney said: "Even though I’ve been lucky enough to have enjoyed an amazingly varied career for nearly 40 years – being cast in Coronation Street is, to me, better than being cast in a Hollywood movie!

"I’ve watched it all my life and can’t quite believe that I’ll now be stepping onto those famous cobbles myself. I was really nervous when I got the scripts to audition as this show means so much to me and my family and this is Corrie gold, I was beyond thrilled and very grateful when I got the call that Iain MacLeod is trusting me to play Tyrone’s Mum and work alongside one of my heroes, Dame Maureen Lipman."

Executive producer Iain MacLeod added: "Claire bowled us over in her audition and the scenes with her, Tyrone and Evelyn will be electric."

Courtney Vance (Stephanie Davis)

When is Courtney Vance arriving? July 2023.

Former Hollyoaks and Celebrity Big Brother star Stephanie Davis is joining the cast of Coronation Street.

Davis' character Courtney is the wife of one of Dev Alahan's business partners but soon strikes up an illicit affair with the younger Aadi Alahan.

On getting the role Stephanie said: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining the cast of Coronation Street, playing the part of Courtney Vance.

"Growing up I have always watched and loved the show, so to be part of the biggest TV soap in Britain, which is in the hearts and homes of so many people, is an honour."

Coronation Street Producer Iain MacLeod said: "In Stephanie and Ryan, we have cast two fantastic actors as the catalyst for this fun, fiery storyline. Aadi will quickly find himself way out of his depth as he risks everything for Courtney. And while it is the best time he’s ever had in his life, he stands to end up in a whole heap of trouble!"

Darren Vance (Ryan Early)

When is Darren Vance arriving? July 2023.

The Archers star Ryan Early is joining the cast as Courtney's husband Darren, who will be busy with business as his wife conducts an affair.

On joining the soap, Ryan commented:"I am so thrilled to be playing Darren Vance on Coronation Street and joining the most iconic Soap. I grew up watching the show with my grandmother so to walk on the cobbles is such an honour."

LEAVING

Aaron Sandford (James Craven)

When is Aaron Sandford leaving? Summer 2023.

Actor James Craven is set to leave Coronation Street this summer as his character Aaron Sandford departs the cobbles.

The character has been the focus of a storyline that saw him rape Amy Barlow after a drunken night in their flat and subsequently, there has been an injustice as no punishment has been issued.

However, the rest of the characters on the street have since turned against Aaron, while his father also sues Amy for libel for an article she wrote about her experiences.

Will Aaron get his comeuppance before he leaves the soap?

A source told The Sun: "James has loved his time on the cobbles, who wouldn’t want to play a villain on Corrie?

"But when you play someone like Aaron there is always going to be a shelf-life and it’s time for him to go.

"James has made great friends but he’s focused on the future now."

RadioTimes.com has approached ITV for comment on this.

Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman)

When is Evelyn Plummer leaving? Summer 2023.

Maureen Lipman is set to take a break from Coronation Street later this summer as she heads to the stage for her one-woman show.

However, what does this mean for Lipman's beloved character Evelyn?

Well, with the arrival of Tyrone's mother on the way, it seems Evelyn will be exposed as a liar as she told him that his mother was dead.

Will Evelyn also part on good terms with Roy? Plus, how long will it be until Evelyn returns to the cobbles?

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash)

When is Paul Foreman leaving? 2023.

Coronation Street favourite Paul Foreman will be killed-off later this year after the character is diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The soap is working closely the MND Association on this storyline and will explore the impact of the diagnosis on Paul and his loved ones as his condition progresses.

MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, attacking the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work, often impacting the patient's senses such as sight, sound and feeling.

Actor Peter Ash said: "Paul is completely blindsided by the diagnosis and he decides to keep it from his family and friends as he tries to come to terms with the news.

"I knew very little about MND before embarking on the storyline and I am hugely grateful to the MND Association for all their help and support. For any actor playing a role which examines a real life issue or condition there comes a huge sense of responsibility and we are aware that some people watching this storyline are experiencing it in reality, it is their life.

"Awareness and education are really important. I have learned so much even in the short time I have been involved in this storyline. We hope Paul’s journey can make people more aware of the symptoms and what it is like for someone to live with MND."

The character will therefore die at the conclusion of the storyline.

RETURNING

Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine)

When is Fiz Dobbs returning? 2023.

Fiz Dobbs will be temporarily off of the cobbles as actress Jennie McAlpine has announced the wonderful news that she is expecting her third child with her husband Chris Farr.

"Alan [Halsall] was the first person I told," McAlpine told OK! Magazine. "I was thinking, 'I might not be feeling brilliant and if you bring any butter near me I might feel sick'. We've been busy, so he's really looked after me – and the bosses. They all know and they're all really happy. We might have to start hiding Fiz behind a washing basket again!"

It is unknown how long Fiz will be absent from the soap, but the character has left the cobbles to work in Norwick for six months.

However, we can expect her to stay in touch with her family back home while she is gone.
