United We Fall (2014) | Radio Times

The story of how Manchester United blew three trophies in 2010 is related in a mockumentary that is bound to appeal more to ABUs (Anyone But United) than fans of Old Trafford's resident football team. Writer/director Gary Sinyor builds the action around interviews with five key (and dubiously caricatured) players: the gay skipper (Ryan Pope), the German goalkeeper (Jonathan Broke), the Teesside prankster (James Rastall), the narcissistic media icon (Jack Donnelly) and the Ghanaian Muslim convert (Matthew Avery). However, Sinyor decides against showing match clips and uses audio commentary to relive the moments that lost the Premiership, the FA Cup and the Champions League. The performances are willing and vaguely spoof the talking heads in Benjamin and Gabe Turner's The Class of '92. But the anecdotes simply aren't funny, while secondary interviews with a David Cameron-like Prime Minister and a corrupt (and dismayingly unPC) Arab FIFA official are as embarrassing as the climactic reunion dinner party with the WAGs.
